Managing your time successfully is a skill that not all of us can master. Time management is key to being productive on a daily basis and staying focused.
Here are some tried and tested ways to manage your time and keep you on track.
Focus on one thing at a time. Working on multiple tasks at once can kill your productivity and focus. Try setting some timers for yourself and take each task one by one, completing them and them moving onto the next.
Be smart with meetings
Try and organise meetings early on in the day as the time leading up to a meeting can often be wasted. Also, keep your meetings on task. It’s very common for a meeting to go off topic which leads to accomplishing nothing, so come prepared with an agenda with what you want to get out of the meeting and ensure you start and end on time.
Schedule time for your emails
You can spend a whole day answering emails and communicating with people via email, it can be one of the biggest time-consuming jobs. Restrict yourself and block two to three times out of your day to check your emails with the aim each time to get your inbox to zero.
Always set a deadline
Make sure you set yourself a specific deadline for all of your tasks. The worst thing you can do is let your tasks go on indefinitely. Make your deadlines hard but achievable and something you will stick to.
Track your time
For a week, track your time spent on jobs and small tasks. You will be shocked to see where your day goes but use this to see where you can cut down time and find ways to increase your efficiency.
If you have a team around you, use them! There is no point being swamped under a pile of work if some of it can be passed onto someone else who can do it as good as you, if not better.
