Healthcare Boost For Manchester-Based Opticians

A Manchester-based opticians is currently completing a major three-week expansion project, which represents a £30,000 investment into Fallowfield’s community healthcare provision.

Specsavers in Fallowfield will soon have state-of-the-art optical equipment, a new and improved layout, new test rooms, furniture and flooring and an upgraded IT system which is all designed to help and improve the customer experience.

The store will be boasting a new Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine, which is usually found in hospital eye departments. It has a number of functions which include screening and management of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and retinopathy.

This technology helps produce a structural scan of the eye, including layers of the eye that would not normally be visible using traditional eye testing techniques. The results are very similar to an ultrasound or MRI scan, in that it creates multiple scan slice images that are built up to form a total image. The OCT machine uses a completely safe laser light source to help with the process that doesn’t emit x-ray-type radiation.

There’s a growing demand for audiology services and thanks to the refit, the Fallowfield store offers new equipment which will see it offer an enhanced hearing service, which is supported by the store’s team of audiologists.

The investment into the new facilities and technology will also further enhance the store’s capability, which will include the detection and management of minor eye conditions and dedicated diabetic screening.

Amanda Pedder, the Store Director said:

“This expansion is a proud milestone for our team, and has only been made possible by the loyal support of the Fallowfield community over the years.

‘The decision to invest in our store supports our growing business needs and has been carefully planned to ensure that we offer the best possible service to our customers.

‘With increased appointments, shorter waiting times, and improved technology, we’re really proud of the changes that we’re making to the store. The entire team is excited for our loyal customers to experience the changes for themselves, whilst welcoming new customers through the door.”
